A place to connect with nature.

In the 1950s, our grandparents, Julio and Alicia, purchased 30 acres in the Western Andes of Colombia. They built a small 'finca,' and named it ‘La Araucana’ in honor of Alicia’s Chilean heritage. The ‘finca’ was meant as a retreat from the chaos of city life. In fact, when phone lines became available in the area, our grandfather stated, "no, thank you, I don't want anyone to be able to reach me here."

Following in the spirit of our grandparents, Araucana Lodge is a place to relax and connect with nature. The farm section of the property originally housed roses and orchids but is now used to grow organic fruits and vegetables to feed our family and guests.

Our father, Alvaro, landscape designer and horticulturist extraordinaire, is confronting the challenge of protecting his crops while ensuring the property is a haven for birds. Our mother, Suzanne, spent years working to make the finca gardens beautiful, and throwing fabulous birthday parties and campouts! She continues to diligently prune our fruit trees. The three siblings, Michael, Christopher and Anna, grew up visiting and playing on this property, watching birds and connecting with nature. We launched Araucana Lodge in the hopes of sharing this very special small part of the world with you! We cannot wait for you to visit our lodge and fall in love with this magical place!
